We are honored to invite all students, families, alumni, teachers, community members, and institutional partners to the Creative Learning for Equity School Design Colloquium this March 10th. On this day, MHHS will dive deeply into a design challenge we are currently facing and support the design growth of our four partner schools in the Innovative School Design Incubator.

Event highlights include: a panel of experienced school designers, a reflective theater experience facilitated by Playback Theater, and live synthesizing work by graphic artistAmber Torres, in addition to experts from Youth on Board, the Cambridge Educators Design Lab, Education Resources Consortium, and the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

The event is completely free to attend, promises to have 100+ local school innovation enthusiasts in attendance, and includes a yummy lunch! We are hoping to have at least 15 MHHS supporters in attendance–but know our community can show up with even more energy than that! Please register here and find more info about the event day schedule here. Abdi and Liz are available to answer any questions you have about the event as well.

Thank you for your sustained support of Mission Hill High School. We look forward to seeing any and all who can come out on this exciting day!

Back in Business

Hello Mission Hill High School visionaries! We are pleased to be back online with exciting updates on the progress of realizing our goal–a 9th-12th grade extension to our beloved Mission Hill School! In the coming weeks you will see news of Mission Hill’s strong new partnerships, including this week’s introduction to the work we embarked upon with the Center for Artistry and Scholarship, and the newest member of our development team, Liz!

We are pleased to share that in September 2017, Mission Hill High School was accepted into the Innovative School Design Incubator’s inaugural cohort of school designers! The Incubator is offered by the Center for Artistry and Scholarship and under CAS’s guidance, MHHS will share and refine its school designs with other innovative, arts-driven educational designers. CAS will collaborate and consult with our development team as we work to create a sustainable future for MHHS. The organization will also document the design process in a “playbook”, in order to share insights from our experience with future waves of educational innovators in Massachusetts. MHHS joins Boston Collaboratory School, Equity Lab Charter School, and Powderhouse Studios in the two-year journey with CAS.

We are also thrilled to announce that Liz Niehaus, a Masters student at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, has joined our team of designers. Liz is a former elementary school teacher with expertise in the science of how we learn, and is especially excited to get to know the Mission Hill community in the upcoming months. She will be on campus every Monday afternoon and would love the opportunity to meet all family members, teachers, students, and community partners who are invested in seeing MHHS through to implementation. You can reach her anytime at liz_niehaus@gse.harvard.edu to share your story, inspirations, ideas, and feedback!
